I was happily surprised when I walked in. It is an old very authentic chinese-american restaurant complete with the local cowboys. Good food and great service. The you lady that serves never stops moving and takes care of everyone.
Not deserving of even 1star!! Absolutely the WORST Chinese food we've ever had! Egg fu young was doughy in the middle and the gravy topping was pure cheap chemical taste! The soy sauce was served in Kikomen bottles but tasted nothing like that familiar brand. Suspect it's stale or they're refilling bottles with an off brand or diluting it with water as this was not salty at all. Spareribs were very tough and full of white fat. The sweet/sour sauce was marginal at best. It was water thin and weakly flavored. The fried rice looked boiled in beef broth without even one vegetable or piece of meat! Nothing but rice that did not seem fried!! The chow menu did have dried noodles under it but the bean sprouts were starting to turn so tasted rancid! The fried shrimp were doughy in the middle so not done. Egg flower soup had just eggs with finely chestnuts. Bland and blah! Waitress was pleasant enough but totaled our bill with an overcharge! When I pointed that out she laughingly apologized with a goofy comment. Then she thanked us as if the overage of a few bucks was for her. We waited several minutes and finally had to ask her for our change-again another excuse! She wasn't busy with only two tables. Needless to say we'll never be back and we dine out in this town at least 3-4 times/month!!!! Sad for the longevity of this place. I don't know how they stay in business!!!
Friendly service. Nice selection, they have both Chinese and American items on the menu. I ordered chow mein and it's very good.
Driving into Burns Oregon and staying the night you quickly realize the restaurant choices are slim. The Hilander was one of the higher rated choices, we went for it and were not disappointed. Service was fast & friendly, as were the locals sitting across from us! The food was great, made fresh, classic Chinese. We asked our server how long the restaurant had been there, at least 40-45 years! We highly recommended the Highlander in Burns Oregon.
Consistently good food and service. Excellent Hong Kong Style Chow Mein. We also like to order the Chicken Lo Mein.
